Ginisang Gulay (with Alamang)
We have an elderly friend who cannot eat much Filipino food, since she’s by herself. What she does is, she comes to the house from time to time to eat Pinoy food. Today, she came with eggplant and ampalaya, with pork and shrimp. I told her, what am I going to do with her veggies..Well, I have frozen Okra, so I decided to cook it like Ginisang Pakbet, only, there was no Kalabasa.
Anyways, it tuned out really delicious and she was so happy..I used Barrio Fiesta Alamang, instead of the brown bagoong isda. I wasn’t able to take a picture..I left while it’s cooking since I had doctor’s appointment, and I came back, it’s almost gone..
Ingredients:
2 medium sized eggplant, sliced
1 medium sized ampalaya sliced
1 package of frozen whole okra
1/2 kalabasa, sliced
10-15 pcs. sitaw or green beans
2 tbsp. Barrio Fiesta Ginisang Alamang
1/2 lbs. pork meat (with fat is better)
10 pcs. shrimp (with head is better too)
salt
MSG (optional)
onion, garlic and tomatoes.
Direction:
1. In a large pan, heat 3 tbsp of cooking oil, and sautee the garlic, onion and tomatoes.
2. Add the pork meat, shrimp and the Alamang. cook until the meat is tender.
3. Add all the veggies and add at least 2-3 cups water. Add a little salt.
4. When the veggies are at least half cooked, check the sabaw if you think you need to add more water. The lesser the water, the better. Taste and add some salt if needed. Add MSG, let cook for at least 2 more minutes. Turn the stove off and uncover.
Yum…enjoy with rice..
